Where Are They Now? Meet COSSPP Alum Melissa Moure

What have you been up to since you graduated? (Applying to/attending graduate school, working a job, etc.)

Throughout my last semester at FSU, I spent a good amount of time applying to nursing school all over Florida. I have decided to continue my studies and begin a new chapter in my journey and start a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. Recently, I had just finished my first semester.

How did your degree in social science help inform your path?

I always knew that I wanted to be a nurse, but didn’t feel quite ready just yet. I wanted to get more introduced to the concept of health, to know the science behind what helped shape the health of our community, and how, as members, we can promote and improve the quality of health. Having been previously introduced to these topics and more as a Public Health student, I realized that all can be applied towards the concept of nursing, from knowing the background of how diseases were developed to how, as a nurse, I could apply that knowledge towards the care and evaluation of patients.

What is your favorite memory or spot on campus?

My favorite spot that I would always go to on campus would be the outdoor area facing the Keen building, behind the Dirac Science Library. There are tables directly facing a beautiful fountain in which makes a relaxing background noise as you study for your exams or simply drink a cup of coffee. I loved coming here in the fall semester because it was not too hot, but not too cold either; it was the perfect temperature with the right amount of breeze surrounded by trees and watching as the leaves turn orange. This is a place that I will always remember and hope to come back soon to.
