Graduate Student Spotlight: Kyle Saunders from the Department of Sociology

What department are you a graduate student in?

I am a PhD. candidate in sociology

Why did you decide to go to graduate school?

I made the decision to go to graduate school during my undergraduate career. I was led to graduate school because of the research opportunities.

Did your interests change throughout your program?

My research interests have always involved mental health and sexuality. Such as studying how religious transitions can influence depression differently across sexual identities, and how experiences of discrimination influence LGBTQ people’s healthcare use and wellbeing.

What do you want to do with your advanced degree?

My primary goal is to secure a tenure position at a large university similar to FSU, so I can do research and teach. However, I also have interests in nonacademic, research-driven positions.
