Graduate Student Spotlight: James Stewart from the Department of Political Science

What department are you a graduate student in?

I am a graduate student in the department of Political Science.

Why did you decide to go to graduate school?

I decided to go to graduate school after writing an undergraduate thesis on the Syrian Refugee Crisis and Vote Share for Far-Right Parties in Europe. That project was very challenging, but even more so rewarding.

Did your interests change throughout your program?

In my short time here at FSU, I’ve realized that I’m more interested in political behavior than institutions.

What do you want to do with your advanced degree?

I would love to be a professor, preferably at a SLAC (Small Liberal Arts College), but I have considered working for the Department of State.

James Stewart is a PhD student in the FSU Department of Political Science. His research interests include authoritarian populist parties in Europe and German politics. You can learn more about James here.
