Graduate Student Spotlight: Stephanie Gonzalez-Herrera from the Department of Public Administration

What department are you a graduate student in?

I’m a graduate student with the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy. I’ll be graduating this Spring!

Why did you decide to go to graduate school?

I decided to go to graduate school because I believed my background in Political Science had given me a great foundation. I wanted to refine my career goals and for me, that meant pursuing my Master in Public Administration. As a first-generation student, this degree means the world to me.

Did your interests change throughout your program?

Definitely. At first, I strictly had interests in governmental relations but throughout my program, I quickly realized urban and regional planning was something I really wanted to do.

What do you want to do with your advanced degree?

Once I obtain my MPA, I hope to enter the planning field as well as find ways to help people build purposeful lives through higher education and access to effective use of resources.
