Graduate Student Spotlight: Diana Bixler from the Department of Public Health

What department are you a graduate student in?

I am in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy – Master of Public Health program

Why did you decide to go to graduate school?

I wanted to open doors for future professional developments. As a non-traditional graduate student, I returned over a decade after getting my undergraduate degree (also from FSU in Dietetics). I want to continue learning and expand my skillset to better our community in whatever way I can.

Did your interests change throughout your program?

I like the MPH program at FSU because it is policy-based, and it is very broad – allowing for the students to choose from a multitude of elective courses that may be of interest. I like having the ability to seek out certain course, such as Epidemiology course, that are not required but interesting to me as a student.

What do you want to do with your advanced degree?

With my MPH, I want to move into health policy or epidemiology. I have narrowed it down thus far but still have 3 semesters to go!
