Market pricing for parking is no longer the pie-in-sky theory of economics textbooks. The technology exists to charge for parking on a real-time basis. Harnessing this technology to manage supply and demand more effectively will ensure that parking exists at peak periods for those willing to pay for accessibility, while creating a sustainable revenue stream for transportation facilities.
Our work raises some cautionary notes. As the composition of the media landscape continues to evolve, changes in how outlets cover important political issues may also have repercussions for the quality of our ongoing national conversation. Similarly, our findings appear to be in line with the notion that coordinated campaigns pushing misinformation (whether through established news outlets or newly invented ones) can have a surprisingly large impact in this era of online media consumption.

There are several things we can do to make our Thanksgiving celebrations less problematic when expressing appreciation with friends and family. We can discuss Native American Heritage Month, and watch documentaries about Indigenous history and mistreatment of Indigenous Americans during early colonization and in more recent years. We can talk about Indigenous social movements, like the push to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day (which has already succeeded in some locations).
There are some parts of the rating system that really are not controversial and can be of enormous benefit to potential donors. Charities that are systematically off the scale in areas of financial non-transparency or threats of (or actually documentation of) self-dealing should raise a red-flag. But, at the end of the day, if you’ve studied the charity and its mission (and better yet, have personal experience with its programs) and you are happy with what you see, the less important the overhead/transparency debate should be for you.
I analyzed the drastic changes that occurred in Florida’s local housing markets as a result of the housing market crash. The crash caused many home foreclosures in the better SAZs, which ended up as bank owned properties that were sold to large investment companies. These companies rented out these homes, which provided an affordable housing option to many low income/minority families within the better SAZs. According to my research, these rentals have had important effects on moving low income and minority families from bad to good schools. Hence, I have provided the first evidence in favor of adopting the housing affordability option to desegregate our public schools.
Our community must begin to devise a better strategy for supporting and coordinating agencies that can address the entrenched social issues driving crime. Whether you look at crime through a belief in social justice, economics, public health, or even fiscal conservatism, the reality is we will only make our community safer when we spend more time worrying about the people whose actions make it unsafe.
Coalitions, particularly ones where diverse groups don’t have a lot in common, are difficult to sustain. Sure, these groups are currently united in their general hostility toward racial and ethnic minorities- and their right to share their concerns over an increasingly diverse country. But, as with other movements, these groups will find that more divides them then binds them together. Factions will rise and the loose coalition of groups will fall.
Despite the potential gains and minimized costs, not all state-based policymakers should pursue constitutional amendments as legislative goals. Constitutional amendments require significant time and political capital to ensure success. Policymakers that do not expect reelection, therefore should avoid this process. Instead these legislators should use what little political capital they have to quickly enact general legislation in an attempt to codify their own policy preference rather than be subject to the preferences of those that will replace them.
